Veto
Anita Wach
“My hands seemed arrested by a silent veto.”
Winston Churchill
13th sentence of the 30 Movements cycle
A woman under pressure. A human under attack. A person under surveillance. There is a need for a self-defence strategy. Self-defence from social, financial and ideological expectations. We are obliged to be wired, connected, plugged. We need to carry a charger and keep the battery filled. Veto. I refuse to stay connected. I refuse to be informed, fertilized, directed. I claim my right to alienation. I claim my right to refuse to be enlightened, I choose to stay unplugged, unconnected, unavailable. The idea was inspired by Hannah Wilke works, her subversive strategy to address patriarchy and her unique form of artistic expression balancing between performance, bodywork and photography.
