Glass Illka
Obscene media game
Obscenity has a direct connotation with theatre. It literally means that we are confronted with something that should remain off-stage and hidden from our eyes. If we locate this game in the political realm, obscenity enters into a direct relationship with political correctness, but at the same time a certain displacement of the obscene takes place – the obscene becomes the game itself. The surface of political correctness begins to be perceived as reality, as the human nature of man, as national character, as a state-forming attitude. The obscene backstage, in the form of aestheticised excess, becomes the media event that keeps this ideological game alive. The result of this obscene game is the castration of the public.
The performance Castration was also the source of a short video entitled Glass Illka. It premiered on 20-11-2022 at the Gallery of Modern Art Ljubljana on the eve of World Television Day.
