Lettuce and blood

Timothy Morton says that the image and concept of nature itself is one of the main obstacles to thinking about the environment. Over the centuries, this concept has developed in the human mind an illusion of opposition and separation between the biosphere and human civilisation. Admiring nature from a distance creates a paradoxical mental confusion similar to that which patriarchy imposes on women: it elevates the female to a pedestal of sadistic admiration, while at the same time subordinating and destroying her. The feminist movement has been working for decades to free women from this connection with nature, which is exploited by the patriarchal concept that places women in the domestic sphere and excludes them from politics. The central thesis of the project is that there is an analogy between the exploitation of women and nature: the lack of respect, the self-evident presence and invisibility of the work that women and nature carry out.
