More barbarism and less culture!
The actors of the National Theatre appear as roles and the performers of Via Negativa as their authors. The performance enacts the powerlessness of the role to represent the author and the powerlessness of the author to embody his own idea. Although SNG Drama and Via Negativa work on completely different production bases and have different aesthetic goals, Via Negativa looked for the meaning of their collaboration not in the formation of a common language, but in the identification of our common traumatic core – and that is Slovenian culture. The performance is not an attack of “non-institutional excess madness” on the “aesthetic integrity of the institution”, but a confrontation with a culture we do not belong to, a confrontation with a future we do not want, and a confrontation with a generation that has endured this for too long – and to which we ourselves belong. The only thing that can get us out of our romantic morass is more barbarism and less culture!
