Travesty of fictional identities

We have created and hidden behind a numerous of fictional, biographical, fairytale, allegorical and absurd roles. Modern media culture demands that we should be open, that we should express our feelings, that we should be critical and entertaining… Be yourself, show who you are. No limits, no shame anymore. Shame no longer seems to be part of modern identity. But shame has not disappeared, we have only suppressed its symbolic function. Even if we negate it, it remains as a stubborn residue of humanity. In contemporary media society, shame is most ashamed of itself. Media reality is a masquerade – hiding behind different roles, defending fictional identities and tragicomically denying fear, insecurity and shame are the basic performance principles of any media phenomenon.
