Last Chance
Loup Abramovici
“I can’t imagine anything else but to perform until the end, until my body can’t keep up anymore.”
(Loup Abramovici)
Does a dancer 45+ need to think about the end of his dance career? Retraining, retirement or any new path? Ageing and obsolescence at a time when the ideal of youth is a omnipresent dictate. The art market, especially the dance market, favours everything that is young, new and fresh.
The 21st century is becoming an era of biopolitics. The ruling structure is increasingly regulating the areas of health, ageing, sexuality, productivity and reproduction of the population. Through its policies, it seeks to optimise individual life and thus ensure the conditions for achieving its ideological and economic goals. Politics, as a tool for the management of a given territory, is increasingly becoming a tool for the management of biological life, for the ideological optimisation of lives and their bodies.
Loup Abramovic is a tireless searcher for a contemporary articulation of the meaning, position and function of art in neoliberal social contexts. He is driven by the need to transgress the genre, aesthetic, market and political conventions of artistic practice. His creative ambition is primarily directed towards exploring and establishing relations, potentials and interactions between the one who speaks and the one who remains silent; between what is visible and what remains invisible; between what is spoken about and what cannot be spoken about. Loup will perform as long as he is able to bring his body on stage in one way or another.
