First Witch: When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
Second Witch: When the hurly-burly’s done,
When the battle’s lost and won.
Third Witch: That will be ere the set of sun.
First Witch: Where the place?
Second Witch: Upon the heath.
Third Witch: There to meet with Macbeth.
W. Shakespeare, Macbeth (Act 1 Scene 1)
This performance is brought to life by three creatures and is divided into three acts. Although the acts are separate, participating in all three gives viewers a chance to experience a kind of completeness. However, our focus will be on what divides, what is ambiguous and enigmatic, and what is lost in words and their meanings.
While we are moving away from the principle of the three unities, we are returning to the origins of the disintegration of the mind’s will: the spirit of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Guided by the thread of prophecy, he remains in a state of constant insomnia and is trapped in a cycle of bloodshed and evil. But rather than examining evil itself, we will explore the complex web of meanings, suggestions and interpretations that lead to it. The distinction between what is reasonable and what is absurd is extremely blurred.
The definition of prophecy encompasses an individual’s belief in a particular project and their vision of the future. Without believers actively working to fulfil prophecies through imagination, they would remain barren. Therefore, prophecies in the form of thoughts, words and potential actions emerge from the darkness, and the three of us strive to provide a basis for their expression.
