Envy as a phantasm of death
Just as in the biblical story of envy, the brothers Abel and Cain compete for the love of God, in the theatre we compete for the love of the audience. In our story of envy, we ask ourselves, who is our Abel? Four performers stage their phantasm about the death of four great names of European performing arts and erase them from the stage of contemporary art.
Barbara: When I woke up today I told myself I’d have fun. I made myself a cup of coffee, checked my emails; sure I’d find something to have fun. Nothing. Spam, spam, spam, spam. But never mind, I’m having fun now. Theatre is always fun.
Katarina: I checked my mobile in the morning, maybe someone called, maybe an SMS, maybe someone invited me somewhere. No calls, no messages. But never mind, I’m having fun now. Theatre is always fun.
Petra: I checked my mailbox this morning. Maybe someone wrote. Or invited me to a party. Nothing. Bills, bills, bills, bills, bills. But never mind, I’m having fun now. Theatre is always fun.
Grega: And with us – our guests, coming from all over the world. We’ll all have fun together.
Katarina: From Wuppertal we welcome Pina Bausch.
Petra: From New York – Marina Abramović.
Grega: From Sheffield -Tim Etchells.
Barbara: And from Geneva – La Ribot.
Katarina: A big round of applause for our guests!
