“My favourite pet is a cancer”

Already in 1999, respondents to the Slovenian Public Opinion Survey placed health at the top of the list of values (ahead of family, work, homeland, religion…) In the 1998 survey by the Centre for Social Psychology, 93% of 8th grade students in Slovenian primary schools gave health the highest rating (ahead of friendship, sex, fun, success). Health has become an ideology. Health has become an ideology. Illness is a systemic burden that threatens the development and success of society, business, families and individuals. According to the latest statistics from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the number of cases rose to 18.1 million in 2018, with 9.6 million deaths. The World Health Organisation (WHO) predicts that this disease will be the leading cause of death in the 21st century. But the number of people affected by this disease is much higher. Cancer also radically changes the lives of families and relatives of affected people, who find themselves in a world where everything is suddenly turned upside down, and vice versa – many things are intensely put back on their feet. Ticket proceeds benefit the Foundation for a Child with Cancer.
