The Play
Loup Abramovici
Play is serious work
Although classical play theory is based on freedom, equality, autonomy and the non-productive nature of play – which sets its own rules that make it stand out from the rules of “real life” – play is also a very serious work. “Civilization grows out of play and, like play, never leaves play.” (J. Huizinga, Homo Ludens) Play is a constitutive part of language, science, politics, art, etc. Loup Abramovici is a performer, dancer, maker of contemporary performance art. Play is his tool, his work, his survival strategy. Loup is also a father who plays with his children every day. He is constantly at play. Can he even afford to stop playing? Is it still a play? How to play this play? Loup has invited his friends, colleagues, parents, cultural workers and their children to play this double play together.
