Three Quarters of a Human

I am a ballerina. I repeat steps, sequences and combinations. I am a choreographer. I am always creating, but I never get to the end. I am a performer. I turn my head, move my arms, legs and torso. I am the body. I am always working, but I never do enough. I am the author. I step out of the line. I don’t know whether to step first to the left or to the right, forwards or backwards. Even though I take up all the space, I am perpetually moving in a square.

I am a dancer – three-quarters human. I am Slovenian – three quarters European. I am human – three quarters animal. I count to three. I arrange my thoughts in sets, rows, columns, repetitions, canons and add pauses. One, two, three. The order calms me and at the same time excites me. So I take the eight liberated bodies. I arrange them in sets, rows, columns, repetitions, canons and pauses. 

We persist in the waltz – the dance of peasants and nobles. We democratically count to three. One. Two. Three. Together we revolve around the same thought – what would happen if we counted differently? But we stumble at the thought of four. We correct ourselves and move on. A step is never just a step. Because a waltz is never just a dance. And the body is always just the body.
