Drop Dead
Katarina Stegnar
The idea we all believe in
A performance in which we all have to play our part: the performer becomes the corpse, the audience the undertaker, the performance the funeral. “What would you like for your last meal? Where do you want to be buried? How would you like to be buried? Who should attend your funeral? Who should read your eulogy? What song should they play at your funeral? What are your last words? These are the questions Katarina asks the chosen audience member, who dies in her arms at the end of this short conversation. No one in the audience believes this, of course, but that is not the point of this prologue. It is about death as an idea – and we all believe in that idea. Death is both deeply intimate and the ultimate theatrical sensation. The performance presents both faces.
