My grandmother’s name was Nada. In Croatian it means hope. She taught me how to make bread. The Slovenian dictionary defines hope as “a state of mind in which one sees the possibility of getting out of a difficult situation”. A mixture of wishful thinking, blind faith, optimism and will. I knead the dough and hope it rises. I am ready, I have a goal, I have willpower, I look for ways and different strategies, I overcome obstacles, I pursue my goal… But the desire remains beyond my control. All that remains is the hope that when it comes, it will come. My grandmother was guided by her naivety, I follow my naive desire.
