VN Depo

Documents 2002 – 2024

VN Depo is a collection of documents on the performative artistic practice of a number of artists working within the Via Negativa platform. Since the beginning of the millennium, Via Negativa has been identifying the irresolvable ideological ruptures of contemporary society and addressing them through its performative strategies in the relationship between the artist and his audience. VN Depo provides digital access to Via Negativa’s artistic works (performance texts and performance videos) and extensive documentation of the projects (photographs, media reactions, reflections, etc.) from the first project (2002) to the present day.

VN Depo is intended for research, study and education. By publishing archival documents, Via Negativa aims to provide a comprehensive insight into the development of the creative processes, production models and performance strategies and formats of the artistic practice of the VN platform. In these fields, Via Negativa has emerged as one of the central actors in the “production of contemporaneity”, constantly relocating, circulating and exploring performance potentials in galleries, theatres, public spaces, digital media, etc. with its performance strategies. For further information on the conceptual and performative characteristics of the VN platform, please refer to the essay Nerazrešljivost kot performativni simptom (Théâtre Public n°222, October 2016) by Dr Blaž Lukan.

Since its foundation (2002), VN has produced more than 150 projects (performances, interventions, installations, videos, collective presentations, workshop presentations, etc.) with more than 250 participants from Slovenia and abroad, and in co-production with numerous Slovenian and European partners. During this time, extensive documentation has been accumulated revealing how the VN platform has evolved conceptually and how it has resonated in different temporal and cultural contexts. Currently (2024), VN Depo contains more than 3000 documents, classified in the following categories:

– photo (photos of performances at home and abroad),
– video (performance videos, video excerpts and video trailers),
– media responses (radio, television, newspaper reviews and interviews),
– texts (performance texts, reflections, leaflets).

VN Depo includes archived completed projects that include a full-length performance video and performance text in their documentation, as well as projects that are currently still alive, so the full-length videos of these projects are not yet available to the public. VN Depo is an ongoing project that evolves with the dynamics of the Via Negativa platform. Its content is constantly being updated and expanded with new documents and new projects.

VN Depo is for private and non-commercial use only. In accordance with the provisions of the Copyright and Related Rights Act, all content is protected as a copyrighted work. Public reproduction, distribution, transmission, broadcast, display or any other form of public distribution of the content published in the VN Depo and on the VN website is prohibited without the written permission of VN or the other copyright holders.
